Dual LNBs.
A bent coat hanger and some zip-strips and I can watch channels from two satellites! [read more about this]

28.2°E (SkyDigital) Free-to-Air

News:

  • New channels!
It always seemed odd that we had ITV2+1 and ITV3+1 but no ITV4+1. Well, now that's no longer an issue. Broadcasting right now as "10015", you can find ITV4+1 at 10831 H 22000 VID=2384 AUID=2383 PCRID=2384.
    While we've had movies4men+1 for a while, what's new is movies4men2+1 which you can find at 11260 V 27500 VID=2343 AUID=2350 PCRID=2342.
For those who liked the incredibly hammy and badly dubbed kung fu movies that were on one or other of the movies for men channels, a new channel called Fight Network is showing one as I watch this. Pop by 11260 V 27500 VID=2329 AUID=2331 PCRID=2305 and have a giggle.

  • Saving the best for last...!
Just go to 10772 H 22000 VID=5400 AUID=5401 PCRID=5400. If it isn't up by name, add the channel called 6335.
Then all you people who wonder what has happened in Erinsborough over the last year (not a lot, I suspect...) can wonder no more. Or for those who prefer sand in their shoes, like the Dido song, Home & Away is available. And, to top it all off, Channel 5 is like the last British mainstream broadcaster to actually have a teletext service.
Oh, yes, I said Channel 5, as in that Channel 5. Maybe you know it by its current 'trendy' name: five ?
Coming soon to five is a Bruce Forsyth night (gee, can't wait...); while Most Shocking Moments Of The 21st Century which is looking at celebrities making an ass of themselves, though I happen to feel that the day known as "9/11" is the most shocking moment in this century and the only reason who have stupid celebrities is even stupider people point cameras at these nobodies and stupider yet people sit on their fat asses in front of the telly and actually give a .... about this procession of self-involved losers. For those of us with a tad more Christmas Spirit and a lot more brain, five is once again home to the Royal Intitution Christmas Lectures, where the quest this year is to find the ultimate computer, and I'll bet you that it is not running Windows!

[OLD] Using your Digibox at 19.2°E (European channels)

Following firmware updates in Summer and Autumn 2005, the Digibox now asks you to "Insert your viewing card" if you try to access "Other Channels" (in the Services menu) before the box has loaded the EPG channels list. This is, of course, assuming that you do not have any viewing card!
The important effect of this miniscule change is that it is now impossible to access any channels that may be added from other satellites (such as Astra 19.2°E) until the box has initialised and loaded the channels and other information from Astra 28.2°E. You could then swap LNBs with some sort of switch, but with cheap FTA receivers running in at around £30 (50 euros) - they being more flexible and generally friendlier to use on other satellites - why on earth would you want to bother using a Digibox to watch RAI Uno, etc?

I have my doubts as to the entire legality of this change - after all, I'm not a Sky subscriber, my box hasn't been used with a Sky card for a number of years now, and yet Sky have dictated something I cannot now do with my box...

Anyway, if you are interested in looking at the old Astra 19.2°E material, perhaps to get an idea of what is available, CLICK HERE!
Note that this only covers Astra at 19.2°E. There's loads more on Hotbird (13°E) and HispaSat, NileSat, the list goes on and on!

If you wish to email me, please send your message to heyrick at the domain merseymail.com.
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts and comments.

Important: I get an hour a week on-line at the local library, so please do not be annoyed if I don't answer for a couple of days! For involved emails, I download them one week, write a reply, and upload them the next week. Thank you for your understanding.

If you are looking for parts and 'spares' for your Digibox, then you might like to visit SatCure. I don't have any personal experience of SatCure to offer; however once you finally reach the catalogue (it could be better organised (spring 2006)!), you'll see that there are loads of things that you may find useful, from entire systems to spare remotes!

Hand-written on RISC OS and Windows 98 computers.
